Evaluated in relation to presenting complaint, history & current health status.
4.1 Body Weight
Small animals: paediatric scale
Med-Large animals: platform scale
4.2 Temperature
Measurement using rectal thermometer. Also examine signs of diarrhoea, parasites, etc,.
4.3 Heart/Pulse rate
Evaluate pulse at femoral artery for pulse rate, strength and quality.
4.4 Respiratory rate(RR) and character
RR determined visually or by auscultation.
4.5 Mucous membrane color (MM)
Examine the blood flow to peripheral tissues.
4.6 Capillary refill time (CRT)
Reflects perfusion of peripheral tissues
